The Wasp Queen
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 12
Slot -; Weight 1 lb.
An amber wasp appears to be a miniature statuette of a giant wasp an inch or so high. When the figurine is tossed down and the correct command word spoken, it becomes a living creature, originally a magical beast with an intelligence score. However, as a thanks for her participation in the Fellnight Conflict, the fey of the Verduran Fey court blessed the figurine with new abilities by turning the wasp into a fey creature by imbuing it with essence of the natural world. When animated, Nessa’s amber wasp acts in all ways like a giant wasp with the fey creature template under the command of its possessor, with the following exceptions. The wasp is has an intelligence score of 10 that understands elven, common and sylvan, and while animated, the amber wasp can be riden without a saddle at no penalty. One of the changes the fey blessed the wasp with is the wasp is able to take the form of an elf while animated, in addition to its wasp form. From the figurine’s original magic, the creature obeys and serves only its owner. The item can be used three times per week for up to 6 hours per use. When 6 hours have passed or when the command word is spoken, the amber wasp once again becomes a tiny statuette.
If an amber wasp is broken or destroyed in its statuette form, it is forever ruined. All magic is lost, its power departed. If slain in its animated form, the figurine simply reverts to a statuette that can be used again at a later time.
The Wasp Queen’s also possess additional methods to advance the powers of their figurines, once their owners grow in power within the organization.
These rare figurines were created by and for The Wasp Queens, a group of elite elven/half-elven Calistrian thieves. Indeed, the Wasp Queens take their name from the figurines as much as their goddess, for each member of the elite organization is given one of these wonderous objects as a sign of membership. They are most often used as a quick escape method when pulling off a daring heist, withdrawing the scene after enacting vengeance or fleeing the bedroom of a scorned lover. The wasp is also capable of defending its mistress, providing the Wasp Queen with an instant ally with a poisoned stinger at the ready.
Nessa’s token is now far more unique than any other Wasp Queen’s, for the fey of the Verduran fey court sought to bless the wasp within with the power of fey. Now, the creature that animates is fully intelligent, calling herself Valeeria.
